The Department of Business Development and Technology (BTECH) at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University invites applications for associate professorship positions in cyber-physical systems.
An associate professorship is a full-time permanent position. The starting date is 1 August 2025 or as agreed upon.
Associate professors split their time evenly between research and teaching activities. The successful candidates will join the EngTech research section.
At BTECH, we have a strong focus on company collaboration, which is reflected in our research and study programmes. We expect you to push the research frontier through applied research. If you also have the competences to enhance our students’ educational development and contribute to knowledge building in companies, you might be just the person we are looking for.
We expect you to have a strong background as mechanical, production, system, electrical/electronic, mechatronics engineer or similar, and that your areas of interest lie within two or more of the following disciplines:
• Cyber-physical systems in product development, smart manufacturing and/or smart energy systems.
• Production automation related to physical production and production technologies, including robotics, haptics, automation and similar technologies.
• Product lifecycle management, including relationships between product design, product development, production and recycling/decommissioning.
• Complex manufacturing systems and layouts, including machining, assembly, modularisation, automation, stocking and digitalisation.
Candidates are expected to teach and supervise students at all levels, including supervision of PhD students. Our study programmes include, among others, an MSc in Engineering (Technology Based Business Development) as well as two Bachelor of Engineering programmes in Forretningsudvikling (Business Development) (cyber-physical systems/product and system development) and Global Management and Manufacturing (production and manufacturing systems). Candidates should therefore be prepared to teach courses in one or more of the following topics: Product development (IoT/CPS/mechatronics), additive manufacturing, automation, simulation modelling and/or mechanics.
Employment as an associate professor requires a PhD degree and a strong academic background as assistant professor or equivalent. Furthermore, we prefer applicants with the following qualifications:
Applicants are encouraged to describe how their research is important for industry. The description could include concrete collaborations, impact, dissemination activities, etc.
Non-Danish speakers are required to acquire a reasonable knowledge of the Danish language within three years. The department will grant time off from teaching to attend Danish courses during the first two years of employment.
Permanent employment as associate professor at Aarhus BSS requires the completion of a supervision course as well as the course ‘Online and blended learning’ provided by Centre for Educational Development at Aarhus University. If these courses are not completed prior to the commencement of employment, continued employment will be conditional on their completion within a two-year period.
BTECH is part of Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University – a top 100 university. BTECH is located in the business-oriented and entrepreneurial city of Herning. The department excels in business, IT and engineering disciplines, with a strong emphasis on company collaborations. We have around 1,200 students and close to 100 faculty and staff. Each year, approximately 500 students are involved in company projects in more than 250 companies ranging from SMEs to leading multinationals. Our incubator Business Factory launches ten new companies annually.
We influence society through business development and technology. For this reason, many research projects are conducted in close collaboration with industry, based on new data and emerging technologies. These projects are generously supported by the ERC, Horizon Europe, the Independent Research Fund Denmark and the Danish Industry Foundation, among others.
