The Institute of Technology in Architecture (ITA) is a leading research institute on building technology, focusing on digital fabrication, building systems and sustainability.
Initiated in 2014, the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) Digital Fabrication aims to revolutionise architecture through the seamless combination of digital technologies and physical building processes. Over 60 researchers from six different academic disciplines collaborate to develop ground-breaking technologies for tomorrow’s construction. Their research allows Switzerland to take a leading position within the global field of digital fabrication.
We offer a PhD position within the National Competence Center of Research in Digital Fabrication (NCCR DFAB) on functional performance integration (energy conversion, heat and mass transfer) into digitally fabricated facades. You will be working as a researcher in a team of architects and fabrication (DFAB) specialist.
We are looking for highly motivated and self-organized candidates with excellent Masters Degree in a natural science or engineering domain (with experience and strong interest in the built environment / architecture) or in architecture (with experience and strong interest in engineering / physics), preferably with a focus on radiation physics / optics, heat and mass transfer and relevant modeling / simulation experience. Optional are 3D modeling and programming experience. We require excellent communication skills in English, both verbally and written. First publications are welcome. You should be able to combine strong individual research with teamwork within the project. We explicitly encourage female candidates to apply.
