Research Scientist in Educational Sciences (M/F)

The research scientist position is part of a concept to promote sciences in the Luxembourgish education system co-funded by the FNR, the University of Luxembourg and the Luxembourg Ministry of Education. The successful applicant will be affiliated with the Research Unit "Education, Culture, Cognition and Society" (ECCS) and its Institute for Applied Educational Sciences. The candidate will be working in the field of educational sciences and will contribute to the research program led by Prof. Dr. Christina Siry. This position involves working at the intersection of academia and the greater public through the development and facilitation of science education offerings for pre- and in-service teachers.

Your Role

Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Christina Siry, the successful candidate will:

  • develop ideas and concepts for the sustainable promotion of science education in Luxembourgish primary schools;
  • participate in the development and implementation of a science resource center that offers science education resources for teachers;
  • develop workshops activities for teachers and educators, as well as

provide long-term ongoing support for in-service teachers;

  • conduct science education research related to the development of the science resource center and/or other related aspects of science education in Luxembourg;
  • prepare single-authored and co-authored publications in English;
  • help to disseminate results of state-of the art research to stakeholders in Luxembourgish education system and at international conferences and research exchanges;
  • promote the offered resources, activities, and programs to teachers, as well as to the general public.

Your Profile

Desired candidates will have:

  • completed PhD related to the field of education (or near completion);
  • teaching experience in science education, preferably in the area of higher education and continuing education;
  • experience conceptualizing, designing, and field-testing science education programs;
  • a publication record that includes single and co-authored peer-reviewed publications in English;
  • experience with interpretive qualitative research approaches and collaborative analyses and writing;
  • knowledge of the Luxembourgish education system and the formal settings of science education in primary and secondary schools as well as in the teacher education programs;
  • experience with program evaluation and / or grant writing will be considered an advantage;
  • fluency in English and proficiency in Luxembourgish; French and / or German will be considered an advantage.
