The Faculty of Psychology includes the Dean’s office, a StudyServiceCenter and • Department of Basic Psychological Research and Research Methods • Department of Applied Psychology: Health, Development, Enhancement and Intervention • Department of Applied Psychology: Work, Education and Economy. The courses offered in Psychology includes a bachelor's, master's and doctoral studies. Currently there are nearly 4000 students enrolled; which are taught and supervised by 220 teachers, within more than 250 courses per semester. We are seeking candidates for a postdoc position (“University Assistant”, approx. equivalent to Lecturer”, contract up to 6 years) at the Department of Basic Psychological Research and Research Methods. The successful applicant will work in close collaboration with Prof. Claus Lamm (Chair of Biological Psychology) and his team at the Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience Unit (SCAN-Unit). The SCAN-Unit investigates a broad range of topics in the field of Social Cognitive Neuroscience, with a focus on empathy, prosocial behaviour, morality, and social decision making. We investigate these phenomena mainly in healthy neurotypical populations, but also incorporate clinical samples (autism, psychopathy, depression), and developmental aspects (social cognition across the lifespan) in our approach. Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Job Description:
We offer a state-of-the-art research infrastructure involving direct access to several EEG labs and a research only 3 Tesla MRI Center, including combined EEG/TMS and EEG/fMRI systems, rTMS and TMS including neuronavigation, tDCS, mobile and stationary eye tracking, mobile and stationary psychophysiological recorders, and a decision making laboratory (for social interaction experiments). The position will be embedded in a thriving research environment offering various opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations (see http://cogsci.univie.ac.at for overview). Holding classes due to extent regulations of wage agreement is expected.

Profile:
We are looking for junior postdoc candidates, who have attained their Ph.D. degree in the last two years, in (Experimental, Cognitive or Biological) Psychology, Biology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, or a related field. Advanced programming skills (preferably in Matlab, R, Python) are mandatory, and in-depth experience in designing, running, analyzing, and publishing experimental studies using human behavioral and/or neuroscience methods (in particular fMRI or EEG, see below for available research infrastructure) is of central importance. Candidates need to have a strong background in computational modeling and in using Bayesian analysis approaches (e.g., Stan, JAGS, or PyMC3), with documented previous application to behavioral and/or neural data. Successful candidates document their research skills by an excellent PhD, and by high-level peer review publications (or submitted manuscripts, for more junior postdocs expecting to be awarded a PhD soon). The candidate should have a strong interest in decision neuroscience and in social cognitive neuroscience, and in being part of an interdisciplinary and international research team. Excellent oral and written English language skills are required. Working language of the lab is English. An autonomous work-style and genuine curiosity is both required and supported. The position also involves some teaching obligations (maximum 4h/week, seminars at Bachelor and Master’s level). Previous teaching experience is a plus.
