The University of Wuppertal invites applications for a professorship in German Children’s and Youth Literature. The position will be based in the School of Humanities. We are looking for an outstanding personality who will continuously develop this area in research and teaching.

DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Your field of work is children's and youth literature from the Enlightenment to the present. You have a proven track record of research on genre theory and systematics as well as on the history and (dis)continuities of children's and youth literature in the historical process. Your expertise also extends to non-textual media formats of children's and youth literature such as picture books, AV media (film, radio plays, audio books, media networks and transmedia narratives) and new digital media. You are also expected to be capable of historical contextualizing analysis, particularly with regard to the values and norms conveyed in each case and the (implicit) anthropology on which they are based. Your research interests should also touch on current topics of relationship between humans and the environment (such as sustainability, the climate crisis, ecology).
  • You are internationally networked and have experience in the implementation of research projects.
  • You are highly committed to continuing existing interdisciplinary research initiatives across disciplines and faculties, such as those currently established in the profile lines “Education, Knowledge and Culture in Social Contexts” and “Language, Narrative and Edition”.
  • In teaching, you offer an attractive range of courses for the School’s degree programmes. You are open to adopting and using modern teaching methods.
  • You will be responsible for all existing and newly established degree programmes in the subject area, in particular for the teaching degree programmes, and will participate in their further development.
  • You have an interdisciplinary orientation and are willing to work in the Center for Narrative Research (CNR).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completed university degree in German studies (Master or equivalent)
  • Special aptitude for academic work, usually demonstrated by the outstanding quality of a doctorate, a topic relevant to the advertised position is desirable.
  • Further relevant scientific achievements performed during a first professorship include junior professorships, habilitations, employment as a research assistant at a university or at a non-university research institution and scientific positions in business, in administration or another social field in Germany or abroad.
  • Pedagogical aptitude, which is proven by appropriate previous experience or, exceptionally, demonstrated by excellent performance in the appointment procedure

You are able to demonstrate your qualification for the position by publications, teaching experience, international cooperation and successful acquisition of third-party funding. Please enclose relevant certificates and supporting documents with your application.
