Postdoctoral Researcher / Scientific Assistant in Life Cycle Assessment for Circular Engineering for Architecture

ETH Zurich’s Department of Civil, Environment and Geomatic Engineering seeks a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Researcher / Scientific Assistant to join the Circular Engineering for Architecture Lab. The successful candidate will engage in cutting-edge research focused on urban planning and life cycle assessment (LCA) with an emphasis on circularity measurement. This role includes significant responsibilities in managing EU grants associated with Horizon Europe projects.

Job description

  • Conduct innovative research in the areas of urban planning, life cycle assessment, and circularity measurement within the built environment
  • Develop and implement tools and methodologies to assess and enhance circularity in urban planning and architectural design
  • Manage and coordinate activities related to Horizon Europe grants, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance with EU regulations
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across ETH Zurich and with international partners to advance project goals
  • Publish research findings in high-impact scientific journals and present at international conferences
  • Contribute to the mentoring and supervision of PhD students and technical staff within the lab
  • Assist in proposal writing and securing additional funding for future research initiatives

Profile

  • PhD in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Architecture, Computer Science, Environmental Sciences, or a closely related field
  • Proven experience in life cycle assessment, sustainability metrics, and circular economy principles in the context of urban environments
  • Demonstrable experience in managing EU-funded projects, particularly Horizon Europe grants, with a thorough understanding of financial and administrative processes
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in relevant software tools for environmental assessment and statistical analysis
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
