The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) is the national institute which prepares expert reports and opinions on questions of food, feed and chemical safety and consumer health protection in Germany on the basis of internationally recognised scientific assessment criteria. It advises the Federal Government and other institutions and interest groups in these areas. The BfR conducts its own research on topics that are closely linked to its assessment tasks. It is an institution with legal capacity within the portfolio of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL).

In the department Food Safety of the BfR in the expert group "Effect-related Analytics and Toxicogenomics"  is the following permanent position immediately available:

Effect-related Analytics and Toxicogenomics (f/m/d)

Part-time employment is possible.

Tasks:

  • Evaluation of the molecular genetic characterisation of GMOs in food and feed, in particular in procedures for the placing on the market of GMOs according to Regulation (EU)1829/2003 and Directive (EC)2001/18; evaluation of the composition of GMOs, in particular in procedures for the placing on the market of GMOs according to Regulation (EU)1829/2003
  • Collaboration in the evaluation of manufacturing processes in connection with the authorisation of novel foods according to Regulation (EU) 2015/2283
  • Conception, planning and realisation of research projects in the field of molecular authenticity testing and safety aspects of new protein sources
  • Guidance of technical staff, supervision of student theses as part of the above-mentioned research projects
  • Publication of results in specialist journals and at specialist conferences
  • Representation of the BfR in national and international committees 
  • Collaboration on the department's QM system

Your profile:

  •  Completed University degree (Master's degree, diploma or comparable university degree) in the field of biology, biochemistry, food chemistry or one comparable specialisation
  • Several years of professional experience with molecular biological-laboratory-practical and bioinformatic methods related to the advertised position
  • Proven publication activity related to the advertised position
  • Very good knowledge of written and spoken German and English
  • Good IT skills as well as a conscientious way of working, flexibility, ability to work in a team and resilience
