YOUR TASKS

The SuperPatch project is a strategic basic research initiative (collaboration between UGent, UZGent, IMEC and Hasselt University) that aims to create a living construct in the laboratory to replace heart tissue for patients who have suffered severe heart trauma. This involves co-culturing different types of cells on a polymer scaffold. The research spans the fields of tissue engineering and bioreactor research (IMEC), with the support of the Department of Experimental Cardiac Surgery and Cardio-Circulatory Physiology. We are looking for a half time Project Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day management of the SuperPatch project, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between UGent, UZGent, IMEC, and Hasselt University.
  • Coordinate and follow up on the scientific aspects of the project in consultation with project partners.
  • Prepare and present progress reports to stakeholders and funding bodies.
  • Oversee project budgets and resources.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and ethical guidelines.
  • Organize project meetings between partners to communicate and monitor scientific progress.
  • If needed provide laboratory work, particularly involving cell culture and biomedical analyses

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., medical or health sciences, bioengineering, pharmacy, medicine, chemistry).
  • Experience in project management, preferably in a research or clinical setting.
  • Strong understanding of tissue engineering, cell culture techniques, and bioreactor systems. Hands on experience with cell culture and biomedical analyses is highly desirable.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • The coordinator will work closely with a team of faculty, post-doctoral associates, and graduate students and liaise with external partners. Capable of working effectively both as part of a team and independently.
  • Demonstrates initiative and strong teamwork skills.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer you a half-time contract (50%). This is a temporary position for one year, with the possibility of extension.
  • Your contract will start on 1/11/2024 at the earliest.
  • You will work in a new research building, called The Core, at the Ghent University Hospital campus (UZGent).
  • Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale WM1 to WM4 (if you hold a Master’s degree).  Click here for more information about our salary scales.
  • All Ghent University staff members enjoy a number of benefits, such as a wide range of training and education opportunities, 36 days of holiday leave (on an annual basis for a full-time job) supplemented by annual fixed bridge days, bicycle allowance and eco vouchers.
