Job description

At the Department of Materials Science and Engineering we are offering a postdoctoral researcher position for development and implementation of crystal plasticity finite element method (CPFEM) modelling of complex microstructures in metallic materials under various loading condition. In order to design novel alloys and microstructures for load-bearing applications it is necessary to understand the evolution of local micro/macro-stresses and strains within the microstructures and at phase/grain boundaries is critical. Therefore, we the main aim of the position is to develop and implement microstructure-sensitive multi-scale computational models for prediction of mechanical behavior of complex multiphase microstructures under static and cyclic loading conditions. This work will support ongoing experimental activities on understanding the structure-property relationships of metallic materials. The CPFEM modelling will in particular support experimental studies using single grain mapping (3DXRD) of mechanical behavior of polycrystalline aggregates as well as experimental studies of structure-property correlations under fatigue loading.

The position should be highly interesting for researchers in computational materials science with a desire to deepen their knowledge and expand capabilities in the field of mechanical metallurgy and materials modeling. Furthermore, the postdoc will have excellent opportunity to widen their knowledge in physical metallurgy in general and to collaborate intensively with academic and industrial partners in Sweden and internationally as well as to contribute to large-scale infrastructure (synchrotron facility) research.

What we offer

  • A position at a leading technical university that generates knowledge and skills for a sustainable future
  • Engaged and ambitious colleagues along with a creative, international and dynamic working environment
  • Work in Stockholm, in close proximity to nature
  • Help to relocate and be settled in Sweden and at KTH
  • Opportunity to develop network a national and international network in academia and industry for metallic materials research.
  • Opportunity to develop in a broad range of materials characterization instruments at Hultgren laboratory
