We are looking to appoint a full-time Lecturer with a unique focus on Gallery Curation for a fixed term of 12 months. This exciting position offers a blend of teaching and international gallery programming, emphasizing expertise in immersive environments, interactive installations, film, video, photography, sound art, wearables, VR/AR, live coding, and animation. Notably, our esteemed SODA's Modal Gallery showcases a diverse range of works falling within these realms.

Role Overview:

As the successful candidate, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our School's curriculum, focusing on gallery curation, installation, and exhibition practices. Additionally, you will lead the curation of our Modal Gallery's program. We seek individuals with demonstrable international curation experience, encompassing commissioning, touring, and collaborative ventures. Your adept networking skills will be instrumental in fostering relationships with stakeholders across local, national, and international levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curate and manage the program for SODA's Modal Gallery, showcasing cutting-edge works that reflect emerging artistic practices.
  • Contribute expertise to the School's curriculum, particularly in the areas of gallery curation, installation, and exhibition practices.
  • Demonstrate an ability to initiate and develop innovative gallery activities and programs.
  • Engage in research, education, and knowledge exchange initiatives, enhancing the academic and cultural landscape of our institution.

The School of Digital Arts is a purpose built, interdisciplinary school at one of the UK's leading universities. Offering industry and research informed courses and specialist spaces with the latest technologies, SODA is a £35M investment into the workspaces, networks, teaching and research that will drive the next generation of creative content. Our students study disciplines that span Film, Animation, UX, Games Design, Games Art and more, often working on live projects with industry partners and frequently collaborating with fellow students and researchers. They choose from a flexible mix of courses: Foundation year, Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Research degrees that run alongside degree apprenticeships, summer schools and short courses.

Opened in September 2021, we work closely with a diverse range of cultural and industry partners, for example Quay Street Productions, Black Magic Design, BBC, ITV and HOME, and are ideally placed in a creative global city that has transformed to be a leading powerhouse of the UK's digital economy.
