At the Faculty of Management and Business, we teach and carry out high-quality, international research in the areas of administrative sciences, business studies, politics, information and knowledge management, and industrial engineering and management. With 3,500 students and more than 300 staff members, our Faculty is a large academic community.

In the Doctoral Programme in Business and Technology Management (TOTO), students can complete the following doctoral degrees: Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Science (Technology). We have fully funded Doctoral Researcher (postgraduate student) positions open as follows:

Job description

Doctoral Researchers are expected to:

  • pursue a doctoral degree in one of the subjects of our doctoral programme and
  • participate in teaching and other specified tasks.

Requirements

The persons selected to the positions are expected to:

  • have a Master's degree or equivalent from a university completed by 31 December 2024,
  • fulfill the eligibility requirements for the Doctoral Programme (see Eligibility criteria) and
  • must complete their research plan and apply to the Doctoral Programme in Business and Technology Management officially before the beginning of the doctoral researcher job, in line with the doctoral programme’s application guidelines (unless they already have a doctoral study right in the programme).

Successful candidates are selected based on the level of scientific promise they show. This will be evaluated on the basis of their research and study plans as well as their track record in previous studies. Evidence of the progress of the doctoral dissertation and/or scientific publishing is considered an advantage.

Priority will be given to applicants who have not received full-time funding for four years before the end of the application period.

Before applying, the applicant must secure a supervisor for their doctoral thesis by communicating with the Unit that is closest to the subject area of their thesis.

We offer

The doctoral researcher positions will be filled for a fixed-term period beginning preferably January 1, 2025. The positions will be filled for 1–3 years. The duration of the employment period depends on the research phase. A trial period (of six months) applies to all our new employees.

The salary will be based on both the job demands and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the University Salary System. The position of Doctoral Researcher is placed on the job demand level 2–4 (in the demand level chart for teaching and research staff). In addition, employees will receive performance-based salary. Our incentive salary system for Doctoral Researchers ensures that the salary increases as the doctoral thesis and studies progress.

We offer a wide range of staff benefits, such as occupational health care, flexible working hours, several restaurants on campus, and excellent sports facilities on campus. Please read more about working at Tampere University.

We invite you to be a part of a vibrant, active and truly international research community. Interdisciplinarity is highly encouraged, as it allows you to expand your research network and exposes you to new perspectives and ideas to solve complex research problems and pursue novel research findings. We have a strong commitment to the highest level of scientific research and the provision of high-quality doctoral education.
