Offer Description

The Centre of Research in the Economics of Development (CRED) at the economics department of the University of Namur invites applications for a post-doctoral position as part of the project “Colonial policies and population in the DRC”. The contract is for 12 months, renewable once.

This project seeks to i) build high-quality demographic and economic micro-level databases for the period 1950-1984 in Congo/Zaire; ii) document trends and geographic disparities in demographic and economic outcomes, with a focus on gender; iii) investigate long-term impacts of specific colonial policies.

The post-doctoral fellow will contribute to the three objectives. S/he will be in charge of supervising an important digitization effort.  An experience in working with historical and archival data and/or with large-scale census micro-data is valued.

The CRED is devoted to studying problems of economic development, particularly issues of micro-institutions, collective action, market development, and political economics. It groups six permanent academic members, around 10 PhD students and several post-doc researchers.
