About the position

At the University of Agder, Faculty of Engineering and Science, there are two fixed-term positions for doctoral research fellows in technology with specialization in ICT. The position is affiliated with the Department of ICT and is part of the integrated PhD program in technology. The place of work is Campus Grimstad. Starting in January 2025.

The position is connected to the NRC  project "SecureIoTM: Energy-efficient intrusion detection systems for IoT based on logic-based Setlin machines". The goal of SecureIoTM is to combine Setlin machines, intrusion detection systems, and the Internet of Things (IoT) to develop the ultra-energy-efficient detection mechanism to combat rising IoT-related cybercrime. The project will develop innovative Tsetlin machine mechanisms and hardware designs to enable real-time anomaly detection and learning on resource-constrained IoT devices.

For the first two years after admission to the integrated PhD programme, 50 per cent of the students will work on the completion of the master's degree and 50 per cent on the PhD project. During this period, you will receive payment for the part of the time you work on the PhD project. In the last two years, this is a regular PhD position and you receive full salary.

Requirements

  • Completed the first year of the Master's program in ICT
  • Good written and English proficiency

The successful candidate will receive conditional admission to the PhD programme. It is required that you complete the master's degree in ICT with an average grade of B or better in the fourth semester, i.e. two years after you have been admitted to the integrated PhD programme. Additionally, a grade of B or better is required for the Master's thesis.

It is assumed that successful candidates to contribute to bachelor-level teaching. Such assignments will provide a corresponding extension to the fellowship period. In evaluating candidates, examination results, project sketches, relevant prior work, and published work will be emphasized. Relevant experience will also be considered.

Applicants must prepare a project sketch to accompany the application. The sketch should be a maximum of two pages, including a bibliography, and present and discuss possible research questions, schedules, and methods within the given framework.

The positions are classified according to the State Salary Code, salary plan 17.515. Code 1019 Research Assistant, NOK 432,800 per year for a 50 % position in the first two years, while PhD research fellows pay salary plan 17.515. Code 1017 stipend NOK 532,200 per year for a 100 % position from the third to the fourth (final) year. When salary payments are made, the legally required contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted.
