The Finnish Institute for Educational Research is seeking to recruit
a Postdoctoral Researcher in research on cultural literacy and social inclusion
starting November 1, 2024 (or as agreed) until December 31, 2026
The Postdoctoral Researcher will work in the Horizon Europe-funded project Advancing Cultural Literacy for Social Inclusion through Dialogical Arts Education (d@rts) and other similar tasks. The d@rts project investigates how performing arts education in formal and non-formal contexts can reimagine cultural literacy as a dialogical practice, that enhances social cohesion and inclusion. The project aims to understand how cultural literacy competence is formed in the context of performing arts education (music, dance, drama), build tools for assessing cultural literacy, and give policy recommendations that can build long-term social inclusion. The project will use both qualitative, quantitative, and participatory research methods. The research will take place in collaboration with research partners from Norway, Germany, Italy, Serbia, Uganda, and New Zealand.
Duties and requirements
The duties include research and publication activities comprising data collection and analysis of qualitative and possibly also quantitative data, co-writing research reports as well as scientific articles to be published in peer-reviewed journals, participation in scientific conferences, and dissemination. The work will be done in close collaboration with other researchers involved in the project, both in Finland and in the partner countries.
Postdoctoral Researcher is required to have a doctoral degree in a relevant field, such as education, cultural or organisation studies, social sciences, or a related discipline; a strong ability for independent scientific work; and excellent writing and interaction skills in English and passable skills in Finnish. The applicant must have an active approach to working in international collaboration.
The applicant is expected to have skills to conduct qualitative analyses such as content or discourse analysis or ethnographic analysis, as well as basic statistical analysis. The applicant is also expected to be willing to develop one’s understanding of the construct of cultural literacy competence and the relationships between cultural literacy, performing arts education, and social inclusion.
The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of a Postdoctoral Researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines.
