The Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH) is a research centre for the study, analysis and public dissemination of contemporary history of Luxembourg and Europe with a particular focus on digital methods and tools for doing innovative historical research. It serves as a catalyst for innovative and creative scholarship and new forms of public dissemination and societal engagement with history.

Your Role...

The Digital History Advanced Research Projects Accelerator (DHARPA) at C2DH is looking to hire a postdoctoral researcher as part of an ongoing project sponsored by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR). The postdoctoral researcher will join an existing project team that includes two other postdoctoral researchers, three software developers, three PhD students, and an administrative assistant, along with principal investigator Sean Takats. As the project's latest postdoctoral researcher, you will be primarily involved in outreach, working with the rest of the team to roll out the first public version of their new research software, as well as working on your own research project. Like the team's other research software projects Zotero ( and Tropy (, DHARPA's software ( is aimed at a wide audience of potential users. This postdoctoral position also includes a teaching responsibility of approximately 1.5 courses per year.

What we expect from you…


  • You should hold a PhD degree in history or a closely related field
  • You should have excellent communication skills in English and at least one other language (as a multilingual university, UL provides staff access to language courses)
  • You should have experience working in a deeply collaborative environment, where you may play different roles across different teams, including not just leadership but also support
  • We value diverse perspectives and experiences and encourage candidates with unique backgrounds or career paths to apply

Would be desirable to have:

  • Experience conducting outreach, training, or other public-facing work related to research or technology
  • Experience with Python, Javascript, R, and/or data visualization will be advantageous
  • Experience in coordinating (digital) history projects
