The University Motto: Zhejiang University encourages all its faculty members and students to follow the spirit of 'pursuing the truth, being rigorous and earnest, exerting oneself for never-ending progress, and pioneering new trails'. In short, the university motto is 'Seeking Truth and Pursuing Innovation'.

About Campus

The University campus occupies lands of 4,265,678 square meter, with sweeping natural beauty surrounding the West Lake in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, and is less than three hours driving from Shanghai.

In addition to classrooms, laboratories, and other academic facilities, the campus includes student housing and faculty apartments, as well as athletic and recreational facilities.

A full range of campus services, including restaurants, bookstores, visitor lodgings, post offices, and banks, are also offered.

International campus

Zhejiang University has 7 campus in total, 5 campuses in Hangzhou, 1 campus in Zhoushan, 1 campus in Haining.

The International campus is a newly built campus in Haining, 120 km southwest of Shanghai. To explore new models of higher education that combine the best practices of the east and west, draw from advanced educational experiences around the world and cultivate innovative talent with international vision, Zhejiang University initiated development of an International Campus in February 2013. The plans was approved by the Ministry of Education in October 2015, and the first students enrolled in September 2016.

The Zhejiang University/University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Joint Institute is based on the Zhejiang University International Campus.

Faculty & Staff

As of  Dec., 2016, the total number of faculty and staff members of the university was 8,423, of which 3,502 are teachers and researchers, with 19 members of the Chinese Academy of Science, 19 members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Teaching & Research Resources

Zhejiang University is equipped with advanced facilities of various kinds for teaching and research, including libraries, labs, computer and information centers, analysis and test centers, and modern educational technology centers. There are 7 hospitals with advanced equipment affiliated to the university. Additionaly, the university computer network, and a number of gymnasiums, recreational centers, swimming pools and shuttle buses, provide various kinds of service for students, faculty and staff members.
