The Department of Clinical Sciences at Danderyd Hospital (KIDS) was established in its current form in 1993. The department brings together education, clinical practice and research in close collaboration. Each year, approximately 900 students complete parts of their undergraduate medical education at KIDS. KIDS also conducts extensive clinical research, with around 100 doctoral students and approximately 15 doctoral theses defended each year. The research is of high international quality and results in around 300 scientific publications annually. The department also maintains several collaborations with external partners. The department also offers courses in specialist training, continuing education, and doctoral education.
Danderyd Hospital is one of Sweden’s largest emergency hospitals and provides healthcare across 10 clinical departments, 8 of which are university healthcare units. Each year, the hospital receives approximately 90,000 emergency visits, 429,000 outpatient visits and 50,000 inpatient admissions. Internal medicine is mainly conducted within the Department of Medical Specialties.
The largest university healthcare unit at Danderyd Hospital is the University Healthcare Unit for Medical Specialties, which, together with the department, has an extensive mandate in both research and education. Translational research in mucosal immunology has developed particularly strongly, and the field has demonstrated significant scientific progress in recent years. Together, the department and the hospital have established an organoid laboratory where mucosal tissue from specific patients can be cultured and studied.
The department wishes to recruit a professor who will lead and further develop research in internal medicine. Your research should focus on mucosal immunology, and you will lead and continue developing research activities as well as our organoid laboratory. As a professor of internal medicine you will also lead activities within the University Healthcare Unit for Medical Specialties and collaborate with other hospitals in the region.
The employment is combined with a position as at least aspecialist physician in internal medicine at the Department of Medical Specialties at Danderyd Hospital. The employment is divided into a 70 percent employment at Karolinska Institutet and a 30 percent employment at the Department of Medical Specialties at Danderyd Hospital.
To be eligible for an employment as Professor with focus on research the applicant must have demonstrated excellent scientific skills, very good pedagogical skills and clinical skills.

The employment will be combined with an employment as a specialist physician, assistant chief physician or chief physician in internal medicine at the Department of Medical Specialties at Danderyd Hospital and therefore you must have a Swedish MD with specialist competence in internal medicine as well as fulfill the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for practicing medicine in Sweden.
Since the employment includes clinical work, you must, besides English, demonstrate proficiency in Swedish, Norwegian or Danish (C1 level according to the common European reference scale, CERS).
In addition, it is a requirement that you have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education, as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution. If you lack such education at the time of employment, you must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.
The Professorship has a focus on research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: scientific skills (3), pedagogical skills (2), leadership and collaboration skills (2), and clinical skills (2).
